Copyright registration is the process of officially recording your work with the U.S. Copyright Office or a similar authority in your country. While your work is automatically protected by copyright as soon as it’s created, registering it gives you additional legal benefits. These include the ability to sue for copyright infringement and to seek statutory damages in court. To register, you must submit a completed application, a copy of your work, and pay a registration fee.
