The Mechanical Licensing Collective, or The MLC, is a big player in US music streaming. They issue blanket licenses to all streaming services, which means the services pay one fee that covers all the songs they play. The MLC then collects that money and distributes it to the songwriters. They also try to match up any unclaimed royalties with the rightful owners.
